Cancer Treatment Center and MRI Facility

Phoenixville, Pennsylvania

When the hospital’s existing Cancer Treatment Center and MRI facility required an equipment upgrade as a result of technological improvements in patient care, AEC designed the new structural improvements necessary to shield and support the new equipment.

For the MRI Facility, AEC, Inc. designed the shoring of the existing building’s superstructure to allow for the removal and installation of a new 27,000 lb. magnet. Along with a new mat to support the magnet, the upgrade included designs for new mechanical and electrical systems and distribution, and supports for a new chiller and mechanical systems on the roof.

In the Cancer Treatment Center, high-density concrete shielding was installed through the existing roof structure. A complete redesign of the existing building’s roof system was needed to accommodate the weight of the new shielding and the new mechanical systems.
